Aquarius Season

In 1969, the American pop group, the 5th Dimension, released their fourth album called “The Age of Aquarius.” Here is an example of the lyrics from the title track:

“When the Moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligned with Mars, then peace will guide the planets, and love will rule the stars. This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.”

Now, whether we have moved into the Age of Aquarius is a controversial astrological subject that I don’t care to debate. But since 1969, a quick perusal of the headlines in The New York Times shows that things have been less than peaceful, and the era of brotherhood and light seems to have passed us by or simply never arrived. Regardless, the 5th Dimension with their hopefully optimistic progressive sentiments were tapping into something much larger than them. They were tapping into the true spirit of Aquarius, which is perhaps more dynamic than pop music can describe.

In modern astrology, Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius. However, in myth, there is very little known about this sky deity, except that he is the antagonist of the Saturn myth, and he is a creator god unhappy with the manifestation of his progeny. So much so, that he banished them to the pits of Tartarus (hell). Yet, there is another figure in myth that seems to reflect the hopeful spirit of Aquarius, the Titan Prometheus.

There are several Greek tales featuring Prometheus. He is associated with science, developing new technologies, mathematics, esoteric knowledge, healing, and the development of civilization. Certain Greek poets accredit Prometheus with creating man out of clay with an assist from the goddess Athena. But he is mostly known for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to mankind. Of course, the theft of fire enraged Zeus, and he sentenced Prometheus to eternal torment. Prometheus lived out his days chained to a rock, while an eagle (Zeus’ symbol) ate his liver.

But what was the big deal about fire, and why did the gods want to hold onto it? In Greek myth, fire is the one element that separates divinity from human beings. Symbolically speaking, fire is the element associated with inspiration, intuition, and foresight. It’s through our inspiration that we can create and come up with answers to everyday problems. Here is the rub – if humans could create on their own, why would they continue to worship ambivalent gods? In retaliation, Zeus instructed Hephaistos, the smith god, to create an object that would be irresistible to mankind, and he created the first woman, Pandora. Pandora, of course, unleashes all the nasties into the world. So, amid calamities, pestilence, and human and natural atrocities, Zeus assured godly worship would continue. Humankind would seek their favor or mercy. Luckily, hope was trapped in Pandora’s box and would be the one thing mortals had left to hold on to.

On the personal level, the Sun moving into the sign of Aquarius sparks our revolutionary spirit to oppose limiting structures and band together to create a better future. Aquarius season is about unity and collaboration, rather than individual pursuits. The sign of the water bearer urges us to work together towards a common goal that positively adds to the human experience. We can do this through technological advancements, joining interest groups or causes we believe in, and realizing that many are greater than individual parts. Through this seasonal Aquarian process, together we become the masters of our own destiny, and like the mythic Prometheus, we can change the world.

5 Ways to Make the Most Out of Aquarius Season

Air Magic: Aquarius is a member of the air element, and one of the easiest ways to tap into the season is by doing a little air magic. Astrologically, air is thoughts, ideas, and the written and spoken word. This is an excellent time to do journaling, affirmations, write blessings, and even pray to your higher power. There are excellent resources on the web to help you tap into this elemental power. All you need to do is cruise over to your favorite search engine and start your journey.

Needed Change: Since Aquarius is about rattling the cage of the establishment, we can use this energy to rattle the cage or our ‘personal establishment’. Release the old and embrace the new.

January 27, 2024 – Mercury conjoins Mars in Capricorn – Extremely discordant aspect. Expect arguments and tensions to escalate. Watch what you say, because it may lead to harsh consequences.

The New Moon in Capricorn

The first New Moon of the Year happens on January 11th in Capricorn. This is the most powerful point of Capricorn season, and it’s an auspicious time to start the year on a solid footing, especially since Capricorn season is goal-oriented and can give you an extra boost.

This New Moon is excellent for finding a new job, getting a promotion or raise, starting a business, or doing maintenance magic on an existing business. Capricorn season is also excellent for reputation building and reputation repair. And, of course, since Capricorn is an earth sign, a little prosperity magic never hurt anyone.

Full Moon in Leo

The Full Moon occurs on January 25th in fiery Leo. The sign of Leo is concerned with our inner purpose (destiny) and personal identity. Since the Full Moon cycle is about letting go of what no longer serves you, this Full Moon is excellent for banishing self-defeating behaviors and everything in your life that doesn’t bring you joy. January 1, 2024 – January 7, 2024

Happy New Year! All the energy this week happens during the first half of the week beginning on Monday when Venus squares troubling Saturn in Pisces. Venus square Saturn can make you feel isolated, lonely, and depressed, and can lead you to review your relationships to see if your needs are currently being met. You may fall into fear-based mindsets about your relationships, but it will motivate you to look at your relationships honestly and discover what they are really about. Later on Monday, Mercury turns direct in Sagittarius. Expect communication issues to slowly clear up, and you can begin to make major decisions again. If you’ve had a falling out with someone recently, this week is the time to begin to clear things up.

Midweek, Mars moves out of Sagittarius and into Capricorn, the sign of his exaltation. In astrology, Mars is the action planet – he likes to get things done. However, the sign of Capricorn teaches us the value of patience and taking responsibility for our actions and decisions. Mars in Capricorn gives us the ability to ground our ambitions and develop realistic plans. Also, in the sign of the sea goat, Mars gives us the ability to set long-term goals, and the drive and determination to get results.

The first weekend of January, the Moon moves through turbulent Scorpio. While the Moon is in Scorpio, it’s important to embrace and explore deep emotions. The Moon in Scorpio offers a unique opportunity to dive into the depth of our inner selves and uncover hidden truths. By practicing mindfulness, we can navigate through intense feelings, and develop clarity and understanding. We start the second week of January like we started the first week with a difficult aspect. This week, Mercury forms a tense square to Neptune in Pisces. Since Mercury went direct last week any unresolved issues or communication problems that have not been resolved may resurface, especially those that occurred around December 21st. You may experience mild communication and difficulties expressing yourself to others. On a more positive note, on Tuesday, the energy dramatically shifts as the Sun trines Uranus in Taurus. The Sun trine Uranus is an excellent day to focus on new experiences and think outside the box.

Midweek, the Moon moves through structured Capricorn. The Moon in Capricorn calls for discipline, patience, and responsibility. It’s time to set clear goals and create a road map toward success, whether that be in our personal or professional lives. The Capricorn Moon also encourages us to reflect on our true ambitions and make sure they align with our values and passions.

The weekend starts off with a beneficial aspect between Mars in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus. Mars trine Jupiter is an excellent aspect to go after your goals, and since it’s considered lucky, you are sure to stack the odds in your favor. On Saturday, Mercury moves out of Sagittarius and into Capricorn. It’s time to put your game face on and get down to serious business, especially if you’ve been slacking recently.

January 15, 2024 – January 21, 2024

We start the third week of January with a lovely aspect between the Sun and Neptune. The Sun sextile Neptune makes you receptive and empathic towards those around you. You may be called upon to help someone in need, and this is the perfect time of the month to do charitable work, make donations to a food pantry, or get rid of clothes you no longer need. The Sun sextile Neptune is also great for spiritual or intuitive activities.

You get serious midweek as Mercury sextiles Saturn in Pisces. Mercury sextile Saturn is an excellent aspect to work on projects or tasks that need focus and concentration. It’s also a great time to look at the world around you and see what needs to be modified or changed. Saturn gives you the ability to see things realistically, and then you can begin to create strategies that bring more stability into your life.

It’s going to be quite a busy weekend with three major aspects (Mercury trine Jupiter, Venus square Neptune, Sun conjunct Pluto), and two sign changes as both the Sun and Pisces move out of Capricorn and into Aquarius. On Friday, relationships may be tricky as Venus squares Neptune in Pisces. If you have built your relationships on unrealistic expectations or idealizations, you may feel disillusioned at this time. You need to look at your relationships realistically and allow your partners to be human.

Saturday, the Sun conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. If you need to repair problematic areas in your life and situations that have become out of control, now is the time to do it. Finally, Aquarius season starts on Sunday and Pluto leaves Capricorn and moves into the sign of the water-bearer where he will remain until September 2024 when he will dip back into Capricorn before moving into Aquarius on November 20th where he will remain for 25 years.

January 22, 2024 – January 28, 2024

The final week of January once again features a plethora of aspects, mainly during the weekend. The good news is that unlike last week these aspects are mainly favorable.

The week starts with Venus moving out of Sagittarius and into Capricorn. While Venus is in Capricorn, it’s important to remember that this is not a time for fleeting flings and quick romances. Instead, it is a time to focus on building lasting bonds with those we love. This transit calls us to approach our relationships and personal values with dedication, patience, and practicality. It is about understanding that love takes time and effort, just like any other important aspect of our lives. By cultivating self-respect and approaching our relationships with care and intention, we can create a strong foundation for long-lasting love.

Midweek, the Moon moves into fiery Leo, and there is an opportunity to tap into a powerful energy that can bring about creative endeavors. Since the Sun rules Leo, it’s a perfect time to engage in activities that allow for self-expression and creativity. Whether it’s starting a new project, taking on a leadership role, or simply indulging in some self-care and self-love, the Leo lunar phase encourages us to embrace our uniqueness and celebrate life.
