It wouldn’t be November without a post about Thanksgiving! It really is my favorite holiday; and this quote from author Melody Beattie has really stuck with me this year in particular:thanksgiving 2

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

2020 has been full of loss. There’s been so much everything this year, and still so much uncertainty ahead of us. As we head into a holiday season that’s going to look and feel a lot different than prior years, I think it’s going to be really easy for a lot of us to fall into The Comparison Game. If you’re saying “I’m thankful to be with family for this holiday….” while secretly thinking how much you miss all the family that aren’t at the table with you…. BOTH THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT ONCE. You can love what you have and also wish for something else.

Thankfulness is an action that helps us acknowledge what’s right in front of us – a gift, a favor done, a meal, our family, a paycheck. Gratitude is more of a state of mind, a kind of chill that helps us find our place in the greater scheme of things. We need both – the human interaction and the universal goodwill – to keep us centered and whole and make peace with this strange season of our life.

In thinking about my intentions for the year ahead, I know that peace and goodwill are going to feature more than abundance and passion. I’ll be focused on protection and healing. My readings will be asking about little domestic questions instead of sweeping universal truths. What will your magic look like this season?
