My sister Nancy and I have the same body type, yet we are the only ones in our family that have this body type.  Out of 9 kids, 2 parents, dozens of cousins there is only the 2 girls who are tall and thick.  I have always been “thick”, even as a little girl I was thicker than my family.   I use the word thick to describe me because I was not fat.  My mother and friends all called me fat, but the grown up me looks at those pictures and sees an adorable girl who was built like a Tonka truck, not a girl who was battle fat.

At a recent family gathering, Nancy and I commiserated that if another person commented that we “should just lose weight” we were going to respectively punch them right in the throat (my words).  Oh yah, I forgot to lose these extra 70 pounds last week, I’ll get right on that.   Our conversation turned to exploring our heritage and the pictures of our paternal grandfather’s people Nancy just uncovered.  We realized our grandfather was a tall thick man, we discovered a great grandmother who was a large woman and we started to put the pieces together.  We are good hearty Scottish women who can handle the harshness of the moors and survive brutal winters.   I can last for months on what I have stored in my fat cells!

We inherit a lot from our ancestors and this is the time year where their presence in most acutely felt.  We visit the morals and values we inherited from our parents and grandparents, we reminisce about good and bad times, we think about many could-have-beens.  This is the perfect time to look at what legacies from your ancestors that you want to keep and which you wish to dis-inherit from you.  It’s ok, you do not have to keep the junk and your ancestors wouldn’t want you to. Think about your challenges and imagine them becoming an inheritance of future generations.  You wouldn’t want that for them and your ancestors feel the same.

In the DIY Akashic Wisdom book that Patty Shaw and I wrote, we have a meditation and instructions on releasing the legacies you no longer want to keep.  I have also found that doing magic in your waking world in conjunction with your Akashic Record work can create a powerful magical shift.  Ancestor altars, candles and creating new spiritual habits all take role in your healing.

The Problem Solving, Truth and Justice and Spiritual Cleansing Blessed Herbal Candle combination, when focused on your ancestors, can help you unravel what legacies are worth keeping and what no longer serves you or your family.  Light those three candles and start talking or writing out what you remember about your childhood, the stories you were told and what challenges in your life that just don’t make sense to you.  Take note of the things you want to release and then do so verbally or in a more ritualistic way by burning the paper you wrote them on (outdoors of course).   You will get even more help from your ancestors this time of the year and the cleansing will be faster and deeper.

We are all crafted from the hard work, beliefs and challenges of our ancestors and it’s time to graduate into our own actualized selves.
